i'm going to need fire and a mojito
well, i just broke one of my hallway lights, and it's the result of a shoe.

My upstairs neighbors have been driving us absolutely mad lately. I'm pretty sure they've installed hardwood floors (against the lease of course). My roommate and i have dealt with it for 4 fucking years. I'm not sure what's changed in the past couple of months, but it's just gotten so fucking bad lately. I think maybe they've been home more than they usually are... I dunno.

All we hear is them walking back and forth.. back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth..back and forth.. back and forth.. back and forth.. back and forth.. back and forth. I can tell you what room they're in at any given time.

Understand, I'm not being picky: we're not quiet. Neither of us complains about anything. You could throw parties every weekend, play music, etc, I wouldn't care. But it's reached a point I think I'm going to lose my mind. It's become so Tell-Tale Heart lately that I think I'm srsly going to lose my fraking mind. If they so much as drop a paperclip, we fucking hear it... I'm not even exaggerating that&8212;I hear them drop things all the time... Every morning, afternoon, night. OMFG. My roommate says he's woken up every morning by the girl upstairs.

To make it worse, one of the guys walks on his heels, so it's this constant BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM from one end of the apartment to the other. They have two huge dogs. We hear the pitter patter of them all the time. The girl who just moved in wears heals... THAT is the absolute worst. You can't even watch TV when she's walking around, it's so fraking loud. Last weekend, she was walking back and forth from room to room that I actually just left the apartment because I couldn't deal.

Well, anyway, the stomping started up again tonight, and I just lost it. I started throwing my shoes at the ceiling. I managed to hit one of the lights in the hallway, and the cover came crashing down. argh. Guess I'm gonna have to visit IKEA to replace it.

I'm really not sure what to do about this. I don't want to complain. I really, really don't. I'm not quiet and it's just not my style. I don't want to be the annoying neighbor who tells them to stop walking, but we've put up with four fucking years of this crap. I don't know if it's this shitty building or what, but I KNOW they're not supposed to have hard wood floors installed (the apartments come with carpet). If they had carpet as they're supposed to, I doubt we'd even hear them, but every step they take echoes throughout our apartment.

My roommate and I are just seriously at our wits' ends with this. My roommate lost it one night and started pounding on the ceiling with the swiffer. We've actually contemplated moving out it's gotten so bad lately. $2100 a month for this crap? There's no way anyone would put up with what we've put up with.

guess my ass is schleping to the southbay tomorrow to get a new light fixture.

argh.

What about New York? Manhattan can be quite outrageous, though I do know a good handful of people who each pay less than 1000 where they live.
