I took lunch to try on the G37 coupe to see if it fit.
When I got my current car, the moment I sat down in the G35 coupe, I absolutely knew it wasn't for me. The G37 coupe doesn't seem to have the visibility issues 2005 G35 coupe had. The growl of the G37 is even nicer than my G35.

The only thing was the car I test drove didn't have the sport package, so I'm not sure if it'll be a teeth rattler with the 19" wheels and tightened suspension (because I will have the sport package). Truthfully, I could live with 18s, but not without solid magnesium paddle shifters and unique sport steering wheel stitching! NEVAR!
Now, the other thing about coupes that I generally hate are what a PITA they are for people sitting in the back. On the G37, there's actually quite a bit of legroom though. Headroom is another story. When I sat in the back, I was a little surprised to see the rear window about 2-3" above my head. (I have to imagine that probably fraks with visibility when people are sitting in the back.)
Getting into the backseat wasn't bad. My roommate's BMW would get old for me considering I tend to drive people around at work: you have to lift the handle, then sit there and hold a button while the seat pushes forward. Then the reverse has to be done for the person getting in the front. The G, however, does everything automagically. You lift the handle and push a little button right by the handle, and the seat moves all the way forward. Push the seat back and press the button again, and the seat moves right back to where it started. Very slick (BMW should take notes).
So, yeah, I think I might like the coupe.
I also test drove both the IS 250 and 350. The 250 is definitely short on power from what I'm used to. After a while, I'm sure I'd get used to it. Some of the IS controls also felt very plasticy, and the clock looked like it belonged in my old Sentra. Honestly though I think it's just what I'm used to.
It also irks me that apparently getting memory seats and mirrors on these cars is virtually impossible without special ordering. They list it as an option, but try finding a car with them.
The thing I was most disappointed with in either Lexus IS though was a lack of, well, farfegnugen. I felt as if I were driving on a fluffy, white cloud of marshmallows... which I guess is awesome for a lot of people, but I'm not sure I'm there yet.
I like taking turns at 60 and knowing my car will hang on. I felt afraid to push this car because I was so isolated from the road. I'm sure the car would have fared fine, but I guess I'm not ready to give up the feeling of really being connected with the car and road in exchange for blowing cool air up my butt (nice option, btw).
On top of that, the piano player in the dealership was just a little bit over the top. I'm sure one day, I'll appreciate the idea of having wine & cheese parties and discussing NPR over a rousing game of Cricket with my new buddies Buffy and Muffy at the local Lexus dealership. That day just isn't here yet.
Nothing's off the table yet though, and I'll still consider all options. The IS is a good-looking car, for sure. Right now though, I think the price, value, features, and sexy have the 2008 G37 winning my
