Wait a vegan minute here!
Why does choosing soy shrimp cost $1 more than the soy chicken or soy beef on the lunch special?!

Like anything else, you have to pay more for the fancier stuff.

And with soy shrimp you don't get that little vein full of turd. And we all know that's the best part!

I've had the rolls a couple of times. Through the rice paper, it looks like real shrimp to me. But, I'm no expert.

Is the real thing (shrimp) cheaper?

restaurant is all vegan, so no real thing. But in general, real seafood is more expensive than beef and chicken. It's pretty typical for Thai restaurants that let you pick the type of meat you want with your dish to charge $1 more for shrimp or fish. It's just odd to see it at a vegan place where everything is soy, since, well, it's pretty much the same stuff.

well, they have to pay -someone- to go and fish for them in the soy lake, with soy bait, so it ends up on your soy plate.

I like to have a lot on hand in case I feel like converting any hot straight men. The hard part, though, is getting them to do soy sauce shots.

;)

Oooohhhh...well damnit, that explains it. I was wondering why I was so into pussy last week then I orderd that tall soy white mocha from Starbucks...then suddenly dropped my pants and begged the barista to fuck me! *smacks forehead* It all makes sense now! THANKS dude! No more soy for me!...How 'bout the Redskins!

I don't know if you wanted an honest answer, but...
There are two reasons.

1) Soy Shrimp uses yam flour (for color and flavour), which is a somewhat more rare ingredient than what you find in other soy products
2) When resturaunts purchase soy chicken or beef, it comes in a large loaf. There's no need to disguise it, because it gets chopped up anyway. The shrimp however, still have to be individually shaped and textured. it ads an extra step to the process.

I think you'd find that the fish options on the menu are also somewhat more expensive, if they have them.

The more you know!

hmm... actually that's good to know! Funny thing is that I'm so used to seeing "Shrimp $1 extra" at regular thai restaurants that it took a little before the "Hey, wait a minute!" hit me.

Re: I don't know if you wanted an honest answer, but...
I only learned about the yam flour last week. My parter's brother is a vege, and he told me about it when we ordered food from Golden Era. I was excited to have a practical application so early. :)

Hey! Sorry this has nothing to do with this post...But John says you were the one who had the super-nifty website where you embedded all the posts with a certain tag. Well, I finally got around to wanting to do that myself, and was wondering whether you had a special s2 style you were using for that or what? I'm kind of lazy and don't really want to write another s2 style from scratch, but I don't think my s1 embedding style is going to cut it for filtering by tag...but s2 it'd be easy cuz you just add the s2 style attribute to a normal url instead of having to use customview.cgi

No, I don't think S1 lets you use tags (at least it didn't when I tried it). I had to create two custom S2 styles—one for my homepage, which only pulls the latest record and another that uses external css from my site. I sent John the php code I was using, which included the references to the S2 styles I was using (although I don't know how public S2 styles are across usernames). At any rate, I can share the S2 code with you. I can't recall if I gutted another style or started from scratch (I think I tried doing it the former way and ended up doing the latter, but it was a while ago).

That would be totally awesome if you could send me a copy of the s2 code you used. my email is raebear@gmail.com

What you have on your website blog actually looks very close to what I want to do...I'm going to put a blog on my website with all my posts about my upcoming trip to africa (but not everything else I post on LJ about)...but with all the LJ links stripped out... which looks like is about what you did. The php embedding code I already got working, cuz I'm using it on my homepage to embed the most recent two entries, I just need to change the URL in the embedding code to use an s2 url instead of s1...oh and then the little details of...I need to make a style
