Immigration Protests
So was the point to show that if we didn't have illegal immigrants I could get to work in 10 minutes every day?!?

hmmm.... I think I may have taken away the wrong message.

So many pretty green dots!!
so many pretty green dots!

[edit: just to be clear, I'm just being silly. this post is not a commentary on the issue in any way.]

just a few moments ago.

The few reds that are there just got there. Crenshaw, I believe, is the staging area, so makes sense I guess that it's starting to back up there.

Still... lots of pretty green dots!

Hey
Followed you over from xtex's LJ 'cause I like the way you think, and notice you're from LA. I'll be moving to Beverly Hills in a few weeks & staying for 3 months. Would you be up for hanging out over coffee sometime? I'll put you on my FList first so as you can see I'm not nuts or anything... ;)

Re: Hey
well I dunno... if you're not insane, we might not get along.

I don't drink coffee, but would be happy to hang out over something else... like chai tea or something :-P

Only freaks drink chai. I love the stuff...

My RN recruiter has said they'll place me in an apt. "within 10 miles" of Cedars-Sinai (where I'll be working). I told her that's a HUGE radius, and she'd best make sure I get a decent place with a manageable commute. I'm a bit intimidated by the idea of LA traffic. We'll see soon enough where they place me.

yeah it's named after the guy who invented them (Something Sigmund... can't remember his first name). He actually just died a few years ago =/. But he was an L.A. staple like Pinks and Tito's Tacos.

He basically created the traffic report.... he would send alerts to receivers he created.. "Sigalerts." I think CalTrans or CHP coopted the term at some point. It used to mean two or more lanes of the freeway would be blocked for two or more hours. Now, they just seem to issue them anytime there's a lane closure for any length of time.

ahh... when any group has a holiday here, and it's a holiday from traffic.

Although today was amazing. I didn't think that many people would participate, but there was practically no one on the road.

traffic was awesome this AM!!
how weird to get to work in 1/2 the time it normally takes even though that is how it should be all the time.

I usually avoid them. Although I do frequently take the 405 to the 10 down from Sunset in the mornings—if it's opened up.

Traffic in Chicago today was also incredibly light. There were no slow cars on the highways (with their occupants fearing a ticket and deportation) like usual. And for a rainy day, it was incredible.

It was advertised here as 'a day without immigrants'.

The Nation of Islam even spoke out at the rally. Not sure why. They hate everyone.
